stacked strategy
stacked strategy is a collectible chess design made from interlocking plexiglass pieces, laser-cut from leftover material provided by a sheet-cutting company. Its abstract design language is deeply rooted in traditional chess craftsmanship, orienting itself in a highly conceptual way toward the classic silhouettes of traditional chess pieces. By transforming these familiar shapes into a modern, modular system, the project bridges the gap between historical game design and contemporary material upcycling, resulting in a cohesive and thoughtfully crafted collection.

The structural logic of the collection explores a deliberate inversion of classic geometry. While the base of traditional chess pieces features a distinct concave curve, Stacked Strategy flips this expectation by rotating the silhouette, transforming the indentation into a bold, convex curvature. Despite this abstract reinterpretation, the design maintains a functional connection to its origin by incorporating the characteristic ergonomic grip at the head of each piece, mirroring the tactile feel of the original figures.
The entire design process followed the strict hierarchy of the game itself, starting entirely with the pawn. Its specific form language served as the genetic foundation for the collection. Once the pawn's geometry was established, all other pieces were developed hierarchically from its blueprint, adapting and scaling its features to reflect their respective power and status on the board while ensuring a unified visual identity across the entire set.
